After 26 years of planning and construction, the Koralmbahn railway between Graz and Klagenfurt is finally complete.

This 130-kilometer line, featuring a 33-kilometer tunnel, promises to revolutionize public transport in Austria.

Test runs are set to begin, with trains reaching speeds of up to 250 km/h, although the operational speed will be 230 km/h.

The first passenger services are expected by December 2025, reducing travel time between the two cities from nearly three hours to just 45 minutes.

This project, costing 6.1 billion euros, is anticipated to foster economic growth by connecting the regions of Styria and Carinthia, creating a new economic zone in southern Austria.

Safety remains a top priority, with extensive testing and training for personnel and emergency services planned before the line becomes fully operational.
