After more than three years of closure, Vienna's U2 subway line is set to fully reopen on December 6th, restoring service between Schottentor and Karlsplatz.
The line was initially closed in May 2021 for modernization and preparation for the new fully-automated U5 line.
However, unforeseen technical challenges, including damaged platform doors and communication issues with French suppliers, delayed the reopening.
Despite these setbacks, the line is now ready, with a successful trial run completed.
The reopening marks a significant milestone for Vienna's public transport, as the U2 will continue to operate until at least 2030, sharing tracks with the upcoming U5.
