Vienna's Summer Transport Upgrades Underway

Published: 2024-07-25

This summer, Vienna's public transport system is undergoing significant renovations, with 4,700 meters of tram tracks replaced and new lines being added.

The U4 tunnel at Franz-Josefs-Kai is halfway through its construction phase, with completion expected by the end of July.

The Wiener Linien have strategically scheduled these works during the main holiday season, when passenger numbers drop by 22%, to minimize disruptions.

Despite the extended travel times, officials assure that a robust network remains available for those staying in the city.

The new line 27 is set to enhance connectivity from Donaustadt to Floridsdorf by autumn 2025, while the U5 will also see improvements.

While some commuters express frustration, the long-term benefits of these upgrades aim to modernize and expand Vienna's public transport infrastructure.
