The transformation of Vienna's Nordwestbahnhof area into a vibrant new district is underway, marking a significant urban development project.
Spanning 44 hectares, this former railway site will be redeveloped to accommodate 16,000 residents with 6,500 new homes, including a substantial portion of subsidized housing.
Central to the new district will be a 10-hectare park, providing a green heart for the community.
The project, which involves the demolition of 45 old structures and the removal of 160,000 square meters of paved surfaces, is set to unfold in two phases over four years.
Construction is slated to begin in 2026, with completion expected by 2035. This initiative not only aims to meet housing demands but also to enhance connectivity and accessibility in the Brigittenau district, integrating the area more seamlessly into the city.
