A tram driver in Vienna has been dismissed after being caught driving under the influence of alcohol, resulting in a passenger injury.
The incident occurred on the D-line tram in the Nussdorf area, where a passenger fell and was injured.
Police investigations revealed the driver had a blood alcohol level of 0.9‰.
The driver, who was relatively new to the job, now faces charges of negligent bodily harm and has been reported for violating strict alcohol regulations.
The Vienna public transport authority emphasized its zero-tolerance policy on alcohol and conducts regular, unannounced tests to ensure compliance.
This case highlights the ongoing issue of intoxicated drivers, a problem seen in other countries as well, such as France, where numerous bus drivers were recently found under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
