A tragic accident occurred in the Tiroler Pitztal mountains on Saturday, claiming the life of a 40-year-old German mountaineer.

The climber, along with his 66-year-old companion, was attempting to summit the Verpeilspitze.

During their descent, the younger climber lost his footing on a snowfield at an altitude of 3,250 meters and fell down steep, rocky terrain.

Despite immediate emergency response, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His companion, who witnessed the fall, was unharmed and later rescued by a police helicopter.

The incident highlights the inherent risks of alpine climbing, especially in challenging conditions.
