After years of planning and construction, the new Linz-Auhof highway exit has officially opened, aiming to alleviate traffic congestion on Altenbergerstraße and improve access to the Kepler University.
The project, which cost 27 million euros, was a collaborative effort funded by Asfinag, the city of Linz, and the state of Upper Austria.
The exit, however, only allows traffic in the direction from Linz to Prague, requiring drivers from Prague to Linz to use the Linz-Dornach exit.
The opening ceremony was marked by both celebration and protest, with demonstrators voicing concerns over what they termed "highway madness.
" Despite the opposition, local officials hailed the project as a significant step towards better traffic management and urban connectivity.
The construction also included environmental compensations, such as the planting of 14,000 square meters of meadow and reforestation efforts.
