A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday at the Drachenwand climbing route in Upper Austria, resulting in the death of a 36-year-old man from Salzburg.
While attempting to overtake a slower group of climbers, he unhooked himself from the safety line and lost his balance, falling approximately 200 meters.
Despite the rapid response from mountain rescue teams, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
His friend, who was with him during the climb, is receiving support from crisis intervention services.
This incident marks the first fatal accident on the Drachenwand this year and the second since the route's opening in 2008, highlighting the dangers associated with climbing in popular areas.
