Westbahn Reopens Amidst Flood Recovery

Published: 2024-09-18

The Westbahn railway line in Austria has partially reopened after severe flooding caused significant disruptions.

The line, crucial for connecting major cities like Vienna and Salzburg, was heavily impacted by recent storms, leading to extensive damage and service interruptions.

As of Wednesday, trains have resumed operations, albeit with delays and limited capacity.

The ÖBB, Austria's national railway company, is working tirelessly to restore full service, with around 500 staff and external support engaged in repair efforts.

Despite the reopening, challenges remain, including ongoing water removal and infrastructure repairs.

Passengers are advised to expect delays and limited services as recovery continues.
