Severe flooding in Austria has caused significant disruptions to the country's railway infrastructure, particularly affecting the Westbahn route between Vienna and St.
Pölten.
The recent extreme weather has left tunnels and stations, such as the Tullnerfeld station and Atzenbrugger Tunnel, submerged and damaged.
The ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways) has announced that the new four-track Westbahn will be out of service for several months due to the extensive damage.
Meanwhile, the old Westbahn route through the Wienerwald is partially operational but only on a single track, leading to reduced capacity.
Efforts are underway to clear debris and repair tracks, with hopes to reopen the second track by October 10. However, full restoration of services will take time, and passengers are advised to expect delays and consider alternative travel plans.
The ÖBB is working tirelessly to ensure safety and restore normal operations as soon as possible.
