A fire broke out in an empty special train on Vienna's U-Bahn line U1 on Tuesday evening, leading to significant disruptions.

The incident, which occurred between the Südtiroler Platz and Taubstummengasse stations, resulted in the temporary closure of the U1 line between Schwedenplatz and Reumannplatz.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and the affected section is expected to remain closed for several days as repairs and safety checks are conducted.

Passengers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and use alternative routes, such as the U3, U4, and S-Bahn lines.

The fire was extinguished by 6 PM, and no injuries were reported, although the train driver is receiving psychological support after suffering a mild smoke inhalation.
