Vienna's S-Bahn Stammstrecke faced significant disruptions on Sunday, leaving many passengers stranded and confused.

The train service between Wien-Meidling and Wien-Praterstern was severely limited due to a "delay in workflow," attributed to a shortage of personnel, particularly train dispatchers.

This unexpected halt in operations was compounded by ongoing construction work between Floridsdorf and Praterstern, which had already been affecting the route throughout the summer holidays.

Passengers were advised to use alternative routes, such as the U-Bahn, with ÖBB tickets being valid on Wiener Linien services.

The ÖBB expressed regret over the inconvenience, citing unforeseen injuries and illnesses among staff as the cause.

They assured that normal service would resume by 18:30, with no expected issues on Monday.
