A tragic train accident in Kaltenbach, Tirol, claimed the lives of a 60-year-old man and his 59-year-old wife.

The couple, originally from Serbia but long-time residents of the area, were attempting to carry a freezer across an unguarded railway crossing to a nearby recycling center.

They were struck by a Zillertalbahn train traveling at 60 km/h and were thrown into a nearby embankment.

Despite immediate first aid, both died at the scene.

The crossing, marked only by warning signs and an Andreaskreuz, lacked barriers.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident, with questions raised about the freezer's role in the tragedy.

The incident has left the local community in shock and mourning.
