A tragic accident occurred on Sunday in the Tauerntal region of East Tyrol, Austria, resulting in the death of a 56-year-old man.

The incident took place when the man was operating a crawler excavator for maintenance work on a mountain path near the Schildalm.

Around 9:45 AM, the excavator veered off the path and tumbled down a steep slope, falling approximately 100 meters into the rocky bed of the Schildbach stream.

The driver was ejected from the cabin and suffered fatal head injuries.

Despite the swift response from emergency services, including a police helicopter and local rescue teams, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident was witnessed by a bystander who immediately alerted rescue services, but unfortunately, all efforts to save the man were in vain.
