A 39-year-old Finnish man caused alarm at a Christmas market in Vienna-Simmering on Friday evening.
Witnesses reported that the heavily intoxicated man repeatedly opened his jacket to display a gas-powered pistol, prompting a market vendor to alert the police.
Officers quickly located the man and discovered a holster under his jacket containing the weapon, loaded with steel pellets.
While no actual threat occurred, the incident raised concerns about public safety.
The man was issued a temporary weapons ban and charged with disturbing public order.
The police confiscated the gas pistol.
