A violent knife attack occurred in Vienna's Favoriten district on Sunday night, leaving an 18-year-old Iraqi man seriously injured.

The victim was stabbed in the back and thigh with a 30-centimeter kitchen knife by a 17-year-old Afghan suspect during a dispute over clothing.

Police quickly apprehended the suspect near the crime scene, and the weapon was later recovered.

Fortunately, an officer trained as an emergency paramedic was on the scene and applied a chest seal to stabilize the victim before he was rushed to the hospital.

The victim's life was briefly in danger, but he is now out of critical condition.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact motive behind the attack, while the suspect's immigration status is under review by authorities.
