A Vienna court has ruled in favor of three FPÖ politicians in a defamation case against the newspaper "Der Standard.
" The case revolved around a report claiming that an SS-associated song was sung at the funeral of former FPÖ politician Walter Sucher.
The FPÖ members argued that the song, "Wenn alle untreu werden," was performed in its original 1819 version, not the altered version used by the SS.
The court found the report defamatory and awarded the plaintiffs €20,250 in damages.
"Der Standard" has appealed the decision, which is not yet final.
The case has sparked debate over the song's historical context and its controversial use at the funeral.
