Vienna has faced a surge in taxi break-ins since late 2023, with over 300 incidents linked to a group of minors.
These young suspects, some as young as 12, have caused damages exceeding €500,000 across Vienna, Lower Austria, and Burgenland.
Using tools like emergency hammers, they targeted parked taxis and other vehicles, stealing valuables.
The police have identified 44 suspects, many of whom are too young to face legal consequences.
To support affected taxi drivers, Vienna's taxi guild has allocated €60,000 in aid, offering €200 per case.
Applications are open until January 2025. This unprecedented crime wave has left a significant impact on the city's taxi industry.
