Vienna Braces for Major Civil Servant Protest

In Vienna, a major demonstration by public service employees is set to cause significant traffic disruptions.

Up to 15,000 civil servants are expected to gather on Tuesday to protest against a proposed wage freeze, demanding fair salary adjustments for 2025. The demonstration will begin at 3 PM in front of the Federal Chancellery and is expected to last about 45 minutes.

Public transport between Schottentor and the State Opera will be halted from noon.

This protest is part of a broader discontent among Austria's 797,300 federal employees, who are pushing back against a wage freeze that could save the government 700 million euros in 2025. The protest highlights the tension between the need for fiscal savings and the demand for fair compensation amidst economic challenges.
