Father Acquitted in Son's Drowning Case

Published: 2024-08-02

In a highly publicized trial, Florian A.

, a 39-year-old father, was acquitted of murdering his disabled son, Leon, who drowned in the Kitzbüheler Ache in August 2022. After three days of intense deliberation, the jury unanimously found him not guilty, concluding that there was insufficient evidence to prove he intentionally harmed his son.

The prosecution had alleged that he staged a robbery to cover up the murder, but the defense argued that the investigation was flawed and lacked concrete evidence.

Following the verdict, the father was released from custody after spending 523 days in pre-trial detention.

The case has drawn significant media attention and raised questions about the handling of the investigation.

The prosecutor's office has decided not to appeal the verdict, making the acquittal final.
