Households in Austria are bracing for significant increases in energy costs starting January 2025. Electricity network fees will rise by an average of 23.1%, while gas fees will increase by 16.6%.
These hikes are driven by reduced energy consumption, which spreads infrastructure costs over fewer units, and increased investments in the energy grid.
Additionally, the expiration of the electricity price cap and the reinstatement of full energy-related taxes will further burden consumers.
Depending on location and usage, annual energy bills could rise by several hundred euros.
Regions like Lower Austria and Vienna will see the steepest increases, with electricity fees climbing over 30%.
Meanwhile, Graz stands out with lower fee adjustments due to reduced investment needs.
