Starting January 2025, Austrian drivers will face increased costs due to a rise in CO₂ pricing, impacting fuel prices significantly.
Diesel and petrol will see a price hike, with CO₂ pricing jumping from 45 to 55 euros per ton, translating to an additional three cents per liter at the pump.
The regional climate bonus, initially introduced to offset CO₂ costs, is under threat of reduction or elimination due to budget constraints, potentially turning the CO₂ pricing into a de facto fuel tax.
Additionally, the cost of motorway vignettes will rise, with the annual car vignette surpassing 100 euros for the first time.
These changes are part of broader adjustments, including stricter emissions standards for new motorcycles and increased insurance taxes for newly registered vehicles.
The Austrian Automobile Clubs, ÖAMTC and ARBÖ, express concern over these financial burdens, urging for measures to keep driving affordable.
