Georg Dornauer, the former SPÖ leader in Tyrol, has lost his position as district chairman for Innsbruck-Land in a decisive vote.
Dornauer, who had been embroiled in controversy over a hunting trip with businessman René Benko, was defeated by Bernhard Höfler, a union leader and national parliament member.
Höfler secured 59% of the votes, ending Dornauer's decade-long tenure in the influential role.
This loss marks a significant setback for Dornauer, who had already stepped down from other leadership roles following the scandal.
Despite his emotional appeal and apology for the hunting affair, the party opted for a fresh start under Höfler's leadership.
The result underscores a shift within the SPÖ towards rebuilding trust and stability after recent controversies.
