Austria has achieved a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, with a 6.4% decrease recorded in 2023 compared to the previous year.
This marks the second consecutive year of emission reductions, largely attributed to effective climate protection measures.
According to Climate Minister Leonore Gewessler, 5.4% of the reduction is due to these measures, while only 1% is linked to economic and weather factors.
The initiatives include the expansion of renewable energy, investments in public transport, and building renovations.
The current emission levels are the lowest since 1990, aligning with Austria's goal to cut emissions by 48% by 2030 and achieve climate neutrality by 2040. Experts emphasize the importance of continuing these efforts to maintain progress and meet future climate targets.
