The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is embroiled in a major donation scandal just before the 2025 Bundestag elections.
Investigations reveal that a €2.35 million donation for a campaign may have been funneled through a strawman, Gerhard Dingler, a former Austrian FPÖ official.
Austrian authorities suspect the funds originated from real estate billionaire Henning Conle, who allegedly gifted Dingler €2.6 million shortly before the donation.
Such concealed donations violate German party laws, and if proven, the AfD could face fines up to €7 million.
This is not the first time Conle has been linked to covert AfD funding.
The party denies prior knowledge of any wrongdoing, but the case has drawn scrutiny from German and Austrian authorities.
