Vienna's AKH Tower Goes Solar

Published: 2024-08-05

Vienna is taking a bold step towards sustainable energy with the installation of a vertical photovoltaic system on the facade of the AKH office tower.

This innovative project, which began construction on August 5, 2024, will feature 90 solar panels that are expected to generate 25,000 kWh of green electricity annually, enough to power about eight households.

The initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions by 15,000 kilograms each year, showcasing the potential of utilizing building facades for energy production.

City officials, including Health Councillor Peter Hacker and AKH Director Herwig Wetzlinger, emphasized the importance of integrating health and climate protection.

With an investment of 2.6 billion euros in renewable energy, Vienna is paving the way for more such projects, highlighting the need for innovative solutions in urban energy generation.
