A 34-year-old woman in Gratwein-Straßengel, near Graz, was severely injured after being attacked by a Rottweiler she was walking.

The incident occurred Friday evening when the dog, despite being leashed and muzzled, broke free and repeatedly bit the woman.

Police intervened after receiving multiple emergency calls, attempting to subdue the dog with sirens and pepper spray, but were ultimately forced to shoot it.

The woman was hospitalized with serious injuries but is not in life-threatening condition.

Investigations revealed the Rottweiler had a history of aggression, including biting a child three years ago.

Authorities are now examining the dog's past and the owner's compliance with safety regulations.
