After extensive negotiations, retail workers in Austria have secured a two-year wage agreement, avoiding potential strikes during the busy holiday season.
In 2025, employees will receive a 3.3% salary increase, with a further 0.5% rise above the rolling inflation rate in 2026. However, if inflation exceeds 3%, further discussions will be necessary.
The agreement also includes a significant increase in the first-year apprentice salary, rising to 1,000 euros.
This deal, reached after five rounds of talks, reflects a compromise between the union's initial demand for a 4.3% raise and the employers' offer.
Both parties acknowledged the challenging economic conditions but emphasized the importance of recognizing workers' contributions.
