Oberösterreich Prepares for Potential Flooding

Published: 2024-09-14

Oberösterreich is bracing for potential flooding as heavy rains continue to batter the region.

In Linz, the first phase of flood protection is being set up, while in Steyr, authorities expect to reach the flood warning level by Saturday night.

Residents are advised to avoid riverbanks and move vehicles from potential flood zones.

Free parking is available at the Reithoffer building.

Precautionary measures include closing basement windows and clearing drains to ensure water can flow away.

Sandbags are available for at-risk households.

Meanwhile, the city of Linz is also preparing for rising water levels along the Danube, with mobile flood protection being erected.

The situation remains volatile, with forecasts predicting up to 200 liters of rain per square meter by Monday, more than double the usual September rainfall.

Despite the challenges, authorities hope to avoid major flooding, focusing on smaller streams and rivers that pose a greater risk.
