Kocher Appointed as National Bank Governor

Published: 2024-08-06

The Austrian government has finalized a significant personnel package, appointing Martin Kocher as the new Governor of the National Bank (ÖNB).

Kocher, currently the Minister of Labor and Economy, will succeed Robert Holzmann, whose term ends in September 2025. Alongside Kocher, Generalmajor Peter Vorhofer has been appointed as the new crisis coordinator for the government.

The reshuffle also includes new appointments to the ÖNB's board, with Edeltraud Stiftinger set to become Vice-Governor in December 2024. The government is still deliberating on the leadership of the Financial Market Authority (FMA), with no decision made yet.

This personnel package marks a crucial step in resolving the ongoing political negotiations within the coalition government.
