The iconic Salzburg Schokolade factory in Grödig, known for producing the beloved Mirabell Mozartkugeln, has closed its doors after 127 years.
The final Mozartkugel was produced on December 5th, marking the end of an era for this Austrian confectionery tradition.
The closure comes as the factory's owner, Mondelez, plans to move production abroad, though the new location remains undisclosed.
This decision has left the future of the Mozartkugel uncertain, with potential new production sites rumored to be in Poland or the Czech Republic.
The closure has also resulted in significant job losses, with the workforce dwindling from 160 to just 40 employees.
Despite the end of local production, Mondelez assures that the Mirabell brand will continue, albeit from a new European location.
