The renowned Austrian chocolate manufacturer, Franz Hauswirth GmbH, based in Kittsee, has declared insolvency amidst rising costs and the lingering impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Known for producing chocolate figures like Easter bunnies and Santa Claus, Hauswirth has been a staple in local supermarkets.
The company, which processes up to 4,000 tons of chocolate annually, faces liabilities amounting to approximately 10.5 million euros.
Despite the financial turmoil, Hauswirth plans to continue operations by utilizing existing bank funds and collecting outstanding debts.
The company currently employs 119 people, and creditors have until February 3, 2025, to file claims.
The first report and examination meeting is scheduled for February 17.
