Austrian Coalition Decision Sparks Debate

A recent survey reveals that only 31% of Austrians support President Alexander Van der Bellen's decision to task ÖVP leader Karl Nehammer with forming a government, bypassing election winner Herbert Kickl of the FPÖ.

The move has drawn criticism, with 59% of respondents deeming it the wrong choice.

Efforts are underway to form a coalition between the ÖVP, SPÖ, and Neos, but public support for this combination remains low, with only 19% favoring it.

In contrast, 26% prefer a coalition between the FPÖ and ÖVP.

The survey also highlights that even among ÖVP voters, six out of ten disagree with the president's decision.

Support for Van der Bellen's choice is primarily seen among Green, Neos, and SPÖ voters.
