Austria has repatriated two women, Maria G.
and Evelyn T.
, along with their children, from Syrian detention camps.
Maria G.
, who left Salzburg at 17 to join ISIS, and Evelyn T.
, who traveled to Syria in 2016, had been held in Kurdish-run camps for years.
Their return follows a court ruling mandating Austria to bring them back.
While Maria G.
was allowed to reunite with her family in Salzburg, Evelyn T.
was detained upon arrival, and her son was placed in youth care.
The operation, coordinated with international partners, faced significant challenges due to the volatile security situation in Syria.
Austrian authorities emphasized that the costs of the repatriation will be charged to the women.
