On Saturday, Vienna bid farewell to Richard "Mörtel" Lugner, a prominent Austrian entrepreneur known for his flamboyant lifestyle and significant contributions to the city's cultural scene.

The funeral took place at the iconic Stephansdom, where hundreds gathered, including family, friends, and fans, to pay their respects.

Lugner, who passed away on August 12 at the age of 91, had meticulously planned his own memorial, ensuring it was as grand as his life.

The ceremony featured a red coffin, symbolizing his famous Lugner City shopping center, and was attended by notable figures such as Norbert Hofer and Susanne Raab.

Despite the solemn occasion, the event was marked by a sense of celebration, with music and tributes highlighting Lugner's impact on Vienna's social fabric.

The procession continued through the city, passing by landmarks like the Staatsoper and Lugner City, before a private burial in Grinzing.

Lugner's legacy as a "Baumeister der Gesellschaft" (builder of society) was celebrated, reflecting his unique role in shaping Vienna's cultural landscape.
