The Tyrolean government has authorized the culling of wolves following incidents involving livestock attacks, despite a recent ruling from the European Court of Justice (ECJ) that maintains a ban on wolf hunting in Austria.
In the latest case, three dead cattle were found in Aurach near Kitzbühel, with suspicions of wolf involvement.
This marks the second wolf to be targeted for culling in the region within weeks.
The ECJ's ruling stated that exceptions to the hunting ban can only be made if the wolf population is stable, which is not the case in Austria.
Local authorities argue that their measures are necessary to protect livestock and have stated they will continue to manage problem wolves despite potential legal repercussions from the EU.
