A tragic plane crash occurred in the Waldviertel region of Niederösterreich, resulting in the death of the 83-year-old pilot.

The small aircraft, traveling from Krems to Dobersberg, was reported missing on Sunday afternoon.

Despite challenging conditions, including dense fog and darkness, a large-scale search operation was launched involving 250 emergency personnel.

The crash site, located in a densely wooded and steep area near Groß-Siegharts, was eventually identified using drones.

Due to the difficult terrain, rescue teams had to proceed on foot to reach the wreckage, where they confirmed the pilot's death.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
