An 80-year-old woman tragically lost her life in a residential fire in Güssing, Burgenland, on Thursday evening.

The fire broke out around 9 PM, with smoke first noticed by a neighbor who alerted authorities.

Firefighters, equipped with heavy breathing apparatus, quickly arrived and evacuated eight other residents from the building.

Despite their efforts, the woman could not be saved, and resuscitation attempts failed.

A firefighter sustained minor injuries during the operation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with 35 firefighters and multiple emergency services involved in the response.
