A tragic accident unfolded on Saturday afternoon at Lake Constance near Bregenz, where a 29-year-old man drowned in front of his family.
The man, who lived in Germany, had rented a motorboat for a family outing with his 35-year-old girlfriend and her two children, aged twelve and six.
The group was enjoying their day near the "Pipeline" beach area between Lochau and Bregenz when the man decided to swim about 10 to 15 meters from the shore.
Around 6:45 PM, he found himself in distress for reasons still unknown and began to drown.
Despite desperate rescue attempts by his girlfriend and her children, they were unable to save him.
Emergency services were alerted by a witness on the shore, and divers retrieved the man from the water nine minutes after the alarm was raised.
Unfortunately, resuscitation efforts by paramedics and a doctor were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Bregenz hospital.
