A devastating avalanche in the Tuxer Alps, near Hippach in Tirol, claimed the lives of a 51-year-old father and his 22-year-old son on Thursday.
The two were part of a four-person group skiing down a steep slope on Rosskopf mountain when a massive snow slab broke loose, sweeping them 300 meters down and burying them under meters of snow.
Despite a large-scale rescue operation involving helicopters, avalanche dogs, and local mountain rescue teams, both victims could not be saved after being dug out and reanimated.
A 19-year-old son narrowly escaped the avalanche, while a friend in the group was unharmed.
Experts warn of significant avalanche risks in the region, urging caution on steep slopes and adherence to safety measures.
