Severe Flooding Paralyzes Vienna's Transport

Published: 2024-09-15

Vienna is grappling with severe flooding as the Wien River has surged, inundating homes, streets, and subway lines.

The water level at the Kennedy Bridge reached 2.26 meters, rising over 170 centimeters in just 24 hours.

This has led to the closure of access points to the Danube Canal and the evacuation of residents in the Penzing district.

The flooding has also caused widespread power outages in parts of Vienna and surrounding regions.

Public transport is heavily disrupted, with several U-Bahn lines partially suspended and bus routes altered.

Emergency services are working tirelessly to manage the crisis, but the situation remains critical with no immediate relief in sight.
