Salzburg SPÖ Leader Resigns

Published: 2024-10-21

David Egger-Kranzinger, the head of the Salzburg SPÖ, has announced his resignation from his roles as party leader and club chairman.

This decision comes as he plans to focus on his duties as the mayor of Neumarkt, a position he secured earlier this year.

Egger's resignation follows a period of speculation and criticism over his multiple roles, which some argued were too demanding.

The upcoming birth of his first child is also believed to have influenced his decision to step back.

In the interim, Roland Meisl will take over as club chairman, while the party leadership will be shared among Peter Eder, Bettina Brandauer, and Barbara Thöny.

Egger's departure marks a significant shift in the Salzburg SPÖ, as he had been a prominent figure since taking over in 2020.
