Rising Antisemitism Among Youth Alarms Experts

Published: 2024-10-10

A recent study commissioned by the Austrian Parliament reveals a concerning rise in antisemitic attitudes among young people aged 16 to 27. The study, conducted by the IFES Institute, highlights that 39% of respondents now agree with statements equating Israeli actions to those of Nazi Germany, an increase from 31% in 2022. Additionally, there is a growing rejection of Austria's moral obligation to support Jews, with only 42% in favor, down from 49% two years ago.

The study also notes a rise in belief in antisemitic conspiracy theories, with 28% agreeing that Jews wield disproportionate influence in international media and politics, up from 20% in 2022. These findings have prompted calls for increased educational efforts and societal engagement to combat antisemitism.
