ÖVP Proposes Major Tax Cuts Ahead of Election

Published: 2024-08-26

The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) has announced a tax reduction program as part of its campaign for the upcoming national elections.

The plan includes lowering the entry tax rate from 20% to 15% and eliminating the 48% tax bracket.

Additionally, overtime work will become completely tax-free.

This initiative is part of ÖVP's broader strategy to relieve the financial burden on the middle class and stimulate economic growth.

The party also proposes a full-time bonus of 1,000 euros annually as a tax credit to incentivize work.

For seniors, the plan suggests removing all taxes and contributions, except for accident insurance, to encourage continued employment.

The ÖVP aims to attract new businesses to Austria through tax incentives and a competitive corporate tax rate, ensuring it remains at least 0.5% below the European average.

The party firmly opposes measures like a 32-hour workweek and property taxes, emphasizing the need for more work and economic relief rather than additional burdens.
