Oberösterreich is grappling with a significant budget shortfall, now projected to reach 253 million euros for 2025, up from an initial estimate of 150 million euros.
This adjustment comes amid a prolonged recession, described as the longest since World War II, and a revised economic growth forecast.
In response, the state government, led by ÖVP's Thomas Stelzer and FPÖ's Manfred Haimbuchner, has implemented a 10% credit freeze on discretionary spending.
Despite these challenges, the government is committed to continuing major projects like the OÖ Plan and Zukunftsfonds, which aim to stimulate the economy with investments in energy, public transport, and research.
The budget will be debated in the state parliament in December, with leaders emphasizing the need for strategic investments over drastic cuts.
