Measles Outbreak in Austrian Ski Resort

Published: 2025-01-05

A measles outbreak has been reported in the ski region of Gosau, Dachstein-West, Upper Austria, prompting health authorities to issue warnings.

On December 27, an infected individual unknowingly visited the Sonnenalm restaurant, raising concerns about potential exposure.

The disease, highly contagious, has seen a resurgence due to vaccination gaps.

In 2024, 105 cases were recorded in Upper Austria, a sharp rise from previous years.

Health officials urge anyone present at the location on that date to monitor their health and check their vaccination status.

Symptoms include fever, cough, and conjunctivitis, and those affected should contact their doctor by phone to avoid further spread.

Experts stress the importance of vaccination, which is free and effective, to prevent future outbreaks.
