The Austrian National Council is set to elect its new president, with Walter Rosenkranz from the Freedom Party (FPÖ) poised to take the top position.
Traditionally, the party with the most votes in the National Council election claims this role, and the FPÖ has emerged as the leading party.
However, this potential appointment has sparked controversy, particularly among the Greens, who oppose a right-wing leader in such a significant position.
Despite concerns, Rosenkranz is seen as a moderate figure within his party, having served as a scandal-free ombudsman.
The election will take place during the National Council's inaugural session, where 183 members will cast their votes in a secret ballot.
The outcome will determine the leadership structure, with the ÖVP and SPÖ also nominating candidates for the second and third president roles, respectively.
