Austria's Climate Ticket, a flagship initiative to promote public transport, will not be abolished as previously feared.
Instead, the new government plans to rebrand it as the "Austria Ticket" and remove the free year for 18-year-olds.
The ticket, which allows unlimited use of public transport nationwide, has been a popular and cost-effective option for commuters, with over 300,000 users in 2024. Despite its success, the program faced criticism for its costs, with some suggesting its cancellation to save state funds.
However, public backlash and its growing popularity, especially among young people, have led to its preservation with minor adjustments.
The rebranding reflects a political shift while maintaining the ticket's core benefits.
