Austria is set to launch a new emergency alert system called "AT-Alert," which will send warnings directly to mobile phones in case of disasters such as severe weather, chemical accidents, or terrorist attacks.

This system, developed by the Interior Ministry, uses cell broadcast technology to reach all mobile phones in a specific area without needing an app or registration.

The alerts will be sent in both German and English, ensuring that both locals and tourists are informed.

The test phase begins on September 9, with a nationwide trial scheduled for October 5. If successful, the system will become fully operational, albeit years later than initially planned due to various delays.

The initiative aims to enhance public safety by providing timely warnings, complementing existing siren and media alert systems.
