Austria's Early Winter Surprise

Published: 2024-11-20

Austria is experiencing an early winter surprise as a cold front sweeps across the country, bringing snow to both mountainous and lowland areas.

In Upper Austria, the Salzkammergut region saw a drop in temperatures with snow expected to reach as low as 500 meters.

Meteorologist Alexander Ohms predicts a temporary break in the clouds, but warns of more snow by Friday morning, with up to five centimeters possible in some areas.

Meanwhile, Carinthia's Koralpe has transformed into a winter wonderland, with snow expected to reach the valleys by Thursday.

Meteorologist Steffen Dietz forecasts five to seven centimeters of snow, with the Karawanken mountains potentially seeing up to 20 centimeters.

In Vorarlberg, the Rheintal region woke up to a fresh blanket of snow, causing minor traffic disruptions.

The cold snap is expected to persist, keeping temperatures below average for November.
